New London studio to focus on tablet

Written by David Stellmack

Microsoft Studios to have a Windows 8 shop

A new London-based studio to be run by Lee Schuneman will be the latest opening by Microsoft Studios. The new studio will focus exclusively on the Windows 8 Tablet project with the goal of developing a long-term business with Entertainment as a Service as its core.

Schuneman, a veteran of Rare, did not offer any specifics as to what they would be working on. The studio is hiring and will not be fully open and running till November. Microsoft claims that they wanted to get the word out to head off rumors and speculation about what they might be up to.

The move by Microsoft signals that the company has the desire to generate software for the tablet market, as they know that it will take software to make the new Windows 8 tablet devices successful.
