Black Isle Studio is back

Looking to bring back the classics

Interplay has reformed Black Isle Studios, best known for a number of RPG classics on the PC. Black Isle is looking to bring back new sequels to these classics.

Some of the titles that Black Isle is known for include Fallout, Fallout 2, Planescape Torment, Icewind Dale, Icewind Dale II, and, of course, Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance II. A number of the team members at Black Isle Studios left there to form Obsidian Entertainment.

Interplay is hopeful that by bringing back Black Isle Studios and re-launching it they will be able to attract top developers to join them. We should say, however, that it is unclear who (if anyone) from the original Black Isle Studio is involved with the new studio this time around.

While we don’t know yet what Black Isle will be doing, we do know that Interplay still has significant IP from which to draw to develop something. We will just have to see where things end up. For sure it will be interesting to watch.
