AMD's John Byrne is now Chief Sales Officer

by on09 August 2012

Further promotion for AMD vet

Former ATI exec John Byrne and the highest ranking ex-ATI chap at AMD just got a further promotion.

Earlier this year he got promoted to Senior Vice President & General Manager of global accounts at AMD and a year before he became Corporate Vice President & General Manager Americas Mega Region at AMD.

With that in mind, one can easily tell that he is doing quite well and the fact that he gets promoted constantly could imply that he is doing something right and that AMD’s new CEO likes him. John will report directly to AMD president and CEO, Rory Read.

Rory said the following about John: “Throughout his tenure at AMD, John has demonstrated a keen ability to help customers win in the marketplace. He has proven himself as a strong leader, and as the new chief of our global sales force, I’m confident he will elevate AMD’s position as a trusted supplier and partner of choice to all our valued customers. John’s competitive drive, deep industry relationships and proven sales execution make him an ideal fit for our senior leadership team.”

Byrne joined AMD in 2007 after AMD’s acquisition of ATI and following the acquisition of Advanced 3D into ATI some years before. We meet John sometime in August 2002, around the launch of Radeon 9700 or very famous R300, some ten years ago.
He also had a nice record with growth of North America and Latin America markets and as AMD worldwide channel sales boss he grew the business by 65 percent in two years.

His promotion happens as new AMD acquisition rumors starts to surface, and the only thing we can add to this acquisition rumour fest is that we believe Qualcomm makes a more logical choice than Samsung. We hope that Bryne will help AMD to get back on track in 2013 and that AMD can restore at least some of its old glory under the new leadership.
