LG smartphone ICS updates get scrapped

LG Optimus 2X and Optimus Black

It appears that HTC's Desire HD is not the only smartphone on the market that will not get the Android ICS update. It now appears that two of the LG smartphones, Optimus 2X and the Optimus Black will not be getting it either, at least judging by the post over at LG Canada.

While some smartphones are struggling with the Jelly Bean update, it appears that some of LG's smartphones will not even get an official Ice Cream Sandwich update, which is bad news for consumers and LG's credibility. It is still not clear if this is just a deal for Canada but judging by other cancelled updates and the fact that LG originally promised the Optimus 2x ICS update for Q2 then delayed it to Q3, it looks like a real deal. The Optimus Black ICS update was originally scheduled for Q3 but looks to be scrapped together with the Optimus 2x.

LG will certainly anger some of its early adopters that went for the LG Optimus 2X, originally marketed as the worlds first dual-core smartphone with Tegra 2 chip. Of course, Cyanogenmod is always an option.
