Is iPad getting Microsoft Office?

Written by David Stellmack

Image floating around said to be a fake

While rumors have been going on for some time that Microsoft has been working on a version of Office for the Apple iPad, it seems that these rumors are coming to a head; there is now a picture floating around that is said to show Office running on the iPad.

According to a comment from Microsoft to ZDNet, they are claiming that the circulating photo is a fake. Of course, that does not mean that they are not working on a version of Office for the iPad. We have continued to hear that Microsoft is working on a version of Office to accompany the ARM version of Windows 8 that the company is developing.

If the latest rumors are to be believed, Microsoft is apparently close to submitting this “Microsoft Office for iPad to Apple” for approval so it can be sold in the Apps Store. Since Microsoft has already produced a version of its OneNote application for the iPad, the possibility of a version of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for the iPad seems at least plausible.

Our sources that we spoke with seemed confused when we asked about the potential Office for the iPad. Most claimed that either they had either not heard of the rumor, or that Office for the iPad would not surprise them. We have to admit that a version of Office to appear at the same time that the new iPad arrives could produce significant sales numbers for Microsoft, but we will have to wait and see.

Read here from The Daily, which thinks Office for iPad it is only weeks away from release.

Or, read here where Microsoft tells ZDNet that the picture claiming to be Office for iPad is a fake.
