If you are like us, one of the biggest reasons we didn’t want to see Xbox Live shut down on the original Xbox was because we could not play Battlefront online any longer (other than to try to find players with the PC version). We were so disappointed when we heard that progress toward Battlefront 3 had been halted by Lucas.

At one point we knew that a third Battlefront was in development at Rebellion or Slant Six Games, depending on which version of the rumor mill you have been listening to. Then the development was apparently canceled by Lucas without even an official announcement. However, why would they make an official cancellation announcement, since they never actually announced that Battlefront 3 was coming?

A number of rumors are again circling that Battlefront 3 might not be dead after all, and a new developer is apparently at the helm. If the latest rumors are to be believed, Spark Unlimited has taken up the mantel and is working diligently on Star Wars Battlefront 3.

According to rumors pieced together from a number of sources, Battlefront 3 will be powered by the latest Unreal Engine and use the Kynapse AI middleware. Scoring LinkedIn profiles and job listings seems to suggest that it could be none other than Battlefront 3 that is being working on. If true, we expect an announcement at E3; but a release date later this year isn’t something we are getting our hopes up for.  However, it surely would be nice.
