Claims weak sales as reason
Mega retailer Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. has announced that it will stop selling Everex's Linux-based PC in its retail stores due to weak sales performance and lack of customer enthusiasm. The Everex TC2502 Green gPC desktop retails at Wal-Mart at US $199 and was tested in nearly 600 Wal-Mart retail stores.
Wal-Mart said that its customers indicate what they want by what they purchase, and that the Everex Linux-based desktop was not well received. The gPC2 desktop uses a Via C7-D 1.5GHz processor, has 512MB RAM and an 80GB hard drive. The $199 price does not include a monitor.
Everex expressed surprise at the announcement and said that they thought sales of the product had been good. However, Wal-Mart said it will continue to sell the Everex desktop online through its Web site, since the online store appeals to a more niche-based customer. Wal-Mart currently sells the Everex notebook at its online store, the Everex Linux-based Cloudbook.
