Back on Friday we spoke to Enrico Salvatori, Senior Vice President, Qualcomm & President, QCT Europe and this nice chap shared a few interesting figures with us.

As of October 2011 Qualcomm chipsets was powering 50+ 3G devices and they were in the vast majority of Android powered smartphones. When it comes to Windows phones Qualcomm is currently first and for the time being the only company to run Windows Phone 7.5 codenamed Mango, and Windows 8 is also added to the list of supported operating systems.

There are 300+ devices (this includes 7x25/7x27) Snapdragon devices announced with 350+ Snapdragon designs in development, including more than 30 tablets, something that we’ve already spoke about.

There are 25 announced or commercially available devices using Snapdragon S3 class processors. There are 130+ designs in developments from 20+ OEMs using S3 and S4 class Snapdragon processors. They speak of 250+ commercial Android devices in the market.

Qualcomm has shipped 5.9 billion+ cumulative chipsets as of November 2nd 2011 and since Q4 2010 it shipped 595 million MSM chips (smartphone / tablet processors).

When we break this in quarters Qualcomm had 111 million MSMs shipped in Q4 10, 118 million MSMs shipped in Q1 11, 118 million MSMs shipped in Q2 11, 120 million MSMs shipped in Q3 11 and 127 million MSMs shipped in Q1 11 (Qualcomm financial quarters).

You can see that Qualcomm is doing really well against its competition that includes Texas Instruments, Samsung, Nvidia and many other who have their chips in smartphones but let’s not forget that Qualcomm is much more than just a mobile chipset company as they sell a great deal of modems to customers that include even Apple and that they have some network giants acquired and selling under Qualcomm including Atheros and even Bigfoot Killer technology.

Qualcomm is definitely one company to watch.
