Resident Evil: Revelations to cost $50

by on03 November 2011

Large 4GB 3DS cartridge cost the reason why

Capcom claims that the high cost to produce the 4GB cartridge necessary for Resident Evil: Revelations is the reason the company was forced to move to a $50 asking price for the 3DS title. The $10 price increase makes this currently the most expensive 3DS title.

The 4GB storage is necessary to achieve a true console experience, according to Capcom. The 4GB is also necessary to house the multiple 3D cut scenes and the campaign that can take as much as 20+ hours to complete. In addition, the game will support the 3DS Circle Pad Peripheral, but it isn’t required, and Capcom has no plans for a bundle at this time that includes the 3DS Circle pad Peripheral.

Will 4GB cartridge releases become more popular? Actually, this title will tell publishers and developers a lot about the 3DS market space and the willingness of 3DS owners to pay a higher price for higher quality and more robust content. If Capcom is successful with the 4GB for Resident Evil: Revelations cartridge, expect to see more titles use both the 4GB cartridge and a $10 higher retail selling price moving forward.
