New publishers added to Origin

EA’s digital distribution service expansion

Electronic Arts has confirmed that they have reached a partnership agreement with publishers Warner Bros Interactive, Capcom, and THQ, which will see their PC offerings added to the Origin digital distribution service.

Offerings from the new publishers will start appearing in November.  Batman: Arkham City and Saints Row: The Third will be two of the high profile releases from these publishers that will be coming to Origin. These partnership agreements mark the first publishers outside of Electronic Arts to have titles offered on the EA owned service.

Currently, EA is offering over 100 titles from the EA catalog on the service and this expansion adds additional variety to the titles that are offered through the new digital download service. EA apparently is also seeking to reach agreements with additional publishers to add their titles to Origin. It will take many publishers and titles to compete with Steam from Valve, which is considered the gold standard for digital distribution on the PC and Mac platform for game titles. Currently, Origin is only available for the PC platform and the company has announced no plans to offer a Mac version.
