More inches, more storage

Asus has shown off its new 8.9" Eee PC at the Centrum der Büro und Informationstechnik, or CeBIT show.

The pimped-up Eee PC boasts a much more useful 8.9" 1024x600 screen, a significant improvement over the current 7" 800x480 screen. Apart from the new screen, the new version promises more storage, and according to numerous reports, it will be offered with an 8 or 12GB SSD. It also looks a lot better with a bigger screen, as the 7" version just looked odd and disproportionate from certain angles, with a ton of plastic and built in speakers in the lid.

It's unclear if the improved Eee uses the same chipset as the 7" version and many are speculating that it might, in fact, be based on Intel's new Atom. The Eee 900 is set to appear in mid 2008 at an MSRP of €400/$600. Hopefully Asus will have enough units for Euroland this time around.

Engadget toyed around with the new Eee and you can check out the article with loads of photos here.
