Jobs presents new Apple campus

Spaceship-like building with apricot orchards
Speaking at Cupertino City Council on Tuesday night, the mighty Apple overlord Steve Jobs presented the plans for the company’s new campus in Cupertino.

The four story building is entirely curved, which Jobs confirmed will cost a pretty penny. The building will be powered by a natural gas energy center in the campus while the regular power grid will be used as backup. All in all, the building looks pretty sleek.

Jobs added that Apple plans to redesign the landscape to include 6,000 trees. Strangely enough, his presentation on the included orchards prefers an apricot to apple – which pretty much echoes our thoughts.

Asked to explain how Cupertino will benefit from this, Jobs replied:”Well, as you’d know, we’re the largest tax payer in Cupertino. So, we’d like to continue to stay here and pay taxes.” He also added that if Apple could not stay, it would take its business elsewhere. “Now that wouldn’t be good for Cupertino, would it” Jobs asked.

The entire presentation went pretty well except when the darned councilor mentioned the word ‘free’. Jobs was asked whether Cupertino could get free WiFi. Jobs jokingly replied that he always thought that companies should pay taxes while the city should take care of free WiFi. Then the councilor repeated the cursed word in association to the holy iPad, which, judging by his reaction did not go very well with Steve.

Jobs said:“We want to submit plans fairly quickly. We want to break ground next year and we want to move into the building in 2015.”

You can find the building desing slides after the 4:55 mark.
