Deal unknown

There seems to be some confusion about whether Dell will offer Ubuntu linux on some of its 'off the shelves' machines.

Mark Shuttleworth has denied reaching a deal with Michael Dell or rather he has refused to comment about any negotiations he might be having with the company.

He said that Ubuntu has sufficient community and momentum that there are likely to be proponents of the distribution in every large company.

However Shuttleworth said that there were some constraints that apply to the global PC industry and would not try to push any company to ship Linux to the mass market without at least having some new ideas to address them.

Officially Dell has so far said that it doesn't want to settle on any one flavour of Linux.
