To be bundled in Limited Edition version
As more information on Battlefield 3 has trickled out from the DICE camp since the release of the first teaser trailer for the game, most Battlefield fans have a lot more questions than answers. One of the latest questions that we appear to have an answer to is exactly what the Limited Edition version of Battlefield 3 will include.

According to some advertising art work for Battlefield 3 that has made its way out a bit ahead of schedule, those that purchase the Limited Edition version of Battlefield 3 will be in for a real treat, as the Back to Karkand DLC pack will be included as the big perk for purchasing the Limited Edition version of the game. Our sources tell us that they believe the artwork is genuine and this is what the plan is from DICE.

The Back to Karkand DLC pack is said to offer four maps from Battlefield 2, including Strike at Karkand, that have been re-imagined using the Frostbite 2 engine that will power Battlefield 3. The new maps will offer all of the full destruction and physics effects that are a core part of the Frostbite engine technology.

In addition, the Karkand DLC pack is said to offer all of the classic Battlefield 2 weapons and vehicles for players to use. The Karkand DLC pack is also said to have its own special rewards as well as achievements/trophies for players to obtain.

The term Limited Edition might be a bit of a stretch, as Electronic Arts has been using this strategy of offering a “Limited Edition” version of the title when the first shipment arrives at retailers to encourage pre-orders, and help those sitting on the fence as to purchase of a game feel like they are getting more value for the money. Sources tell us that Battlefield 3 will be no different and the Limited Edition version will be the first version of the game that shows up at retailers for the same price.

Besides the first real in-depth look at Battlefield 3 during a scheduled talk as GDC, it is then expected the title will get a more formal look during E3 in June when it is expected DICE (in conjunction with EA) will announce a release date, which right now is only confirmed as this fall 2011.

Retailers we spoke with expect to be able to start accepting pre-orders for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC versions of Battlefield 3 next week. It is currently unknown if the PC version will officially be offered for $10 less than the console versions, but sources whisper to us that because of the “special attention” the PC version is getting this time around, we would not count on it.
