Their 'Open Standards'

Software
giant Microsoft has been telling the world that it favors open standards and did not oppose the OpenDocument format. Albert Dela Cruz, Platform Strategy Manager of Microsoft Philippines, said in a briefing that there was no battle with regard to standards.

Cruz indicated that Microsoft was just providing another standard, openXML, to give people a choice; in the end, the market will decide which standard to adopt. Microsoft has stopped dismissing open source licensing and the community development as a dangerous folly or evil foe, according to Cruz, and interoperability is the real need of clients that dictates co-existence, he said.

The push for openXML is part of Microsoft’s effort to promote more interoperability of its products with other applications available, Dela Cruz said.
