H.A.W.X.2 will not have Kinect support

by on29 July 2010

Ubisoft apparently did consider offering it
Sources have revealed to us that apparently Ubisoft and the developers working on H.A.W.X.2 did consider adapting the game so that it would be playable with the Microsoft Kinect device, only to find that Kinect is not a good fit for an air combat game.

According to what we have been able to learn, the developers attempted a variety of uses for the Kinect product within the game, but without buttons the game risked its authenticity and simply was not that playable.

The news confirms what we have been hearing from a variety of developer sources which is that Kinect just isn’t a good fit for most hardcore titles, and these titles will continue to use the regular controller. This does seem to again confirm what we have been hearing, which is that Kinect is simply better suited for casual titles and special titles that make very special use of its unique features.

No big surprise here, and it just continues to confirm what we have said all along; Kinect is going to struggle if it can’t attract hardcore gamers, and without hardcore Kinect titles this will continue to be difficult.
