Droid 2 first to ship Android 2.2

Rumours and speculation
The Droid 2 might be the first phone to ship Android 2.2 out of the box.

Android and Me has found a deep throat that has leaked the date of August 23rd for the Droid 2. According to the site the cunning plan is to be the first phone to ship with the new Android 2.2 out of the box. This would be news as the test versions of the Droid 2 are running Android 2.1.

However there are other rumours that the first Droid will make the jump to Froyo in late July which means that existing users simply can run it as an upgrade.

However the Droid 2 will be the first to ship the beast out of the box. Certainly if the upgrade rumours are true, it makes little point to ship the Droid 2 without Froyo.

Meanwhile the Droid X will have to wait until late August before it gets its Android 2.2 make over.
