The U.S. government has decided to slash its science budgets.
Despite public announcements that the U.S. needs to spend more on science, or else lose technological ground to other countries, the government has closed down some key technology projects.
According to
Science Now magazine, cuts are savage, particularly to the U.S. Government's fusion energy project and the high technology program. Ironically, Homeland Security, which wanted an extra $10 million to improve its technology research, did not get it.
Instead, spending on the Iraq war and Afganistan was increased by $39 billion.
