Proving the last week's rumours, Sony has announced a new, or to be precise, an updated 8-inch Vaio P ultraportable. The novelty is the optical touchpad, 3G connectivity, accelerometer, GPS, digital compass and a faster Intel Atom Z560 processor.

The new update for Sony's 8-inch Vaio P netbook is apparently much better than just a design update that everyone expected and Sony certainly surprised a lot of people with this one. The new Vaio P will get an optical touchpad integrated into the LCD bezel, accelerometer for screen rotating and easy surfing the web as well as the 3G connectivity.



As for the under-the-hood changes, the new Vaio P gets a new, and faster, Intel Atom Z560 processor. The base version will still be available with the Intel Z530 1.6GHz CPU.

As you might already know, the rest of the specs include 2GB of DDR2 memory, Intel's integrated GMA 500 graphics, 64GB SSD, 8-inch 1600x768 screen, 802.11bgn WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, two USB 2.0 ports and a battery capable of providing around three hours of usage.

The new Vaio P will be available in green, pink, orange, black and white colour options. It should appear on the retail/e-tail shelves as of June with a US $799 price tag for the base version with Z530 CPU.
