Dirt cheap Phenom N930 coming soon

Dell is
listing an interesting Inspiron laptop packed with AMD's latest processors and 8-series chipsets. Oddly enough, Dell claims the Inspiron M501R will be available with quad-core Phenom processors, but there are no exact specs. You can check it out here.

However, Acer has revealed a bit more. Its 15.6-inch Aspire 5553 packs AMD's Phenom II X4 N930 clocked at 2GHz. It has 4096MB of memory, 640GB of storage and ATI's DirectX 11 capable Radeon HD 5650 discrete graphics for good measure.

You'll probably agree the specs are rather impressive, but the real kicker is the price tag. Listings start at €764, making it the cheapest quad-core notebook listed in Europe, not to mention that it packs better graphics and more storage than its closest counterparts based on Intel chips, which are at least €100 to €150 pricier.

As usual, there is a catch. It's still not available and retailers claim they will have it in stock in one to four weeks. However, there's a good chance the price will go down once the new Aspire starts shipping, making it an even better deal. You can find the listings here.

We will try to find out a bit more about the new Phenom N930 in coming days, but at this point it is looking like a very tempting alternative to Intel's pricey Core series quads.
