Windows 7 or MeeGo Linux

It is quite funny to see that Intel is not pushing its MobLin anymore, at least not for late 2011 Atom platform codenamed Cedar-Trail M.

The next generation Netbook platform will naturally support Windows 7 in Starter and Home Basic variants, but it is quite interesting that it will also support Google Chrome OS. This demonstrates that the chip giant expects many people plan to embrace this OS.

The list of supported OS' is not complete, as Cedar-Trail M also supports MeeGo Linux which is an open source joint venture between Intel’s Moblin and Nokia’s Maemo. This is the direction that Intel and Nokia want to push for the future, but it is uncertain that they stand much chance against Microsoft and Google entering the operating system arena.

Cedar Trail M comes in the second half of 2011, so more than a year from now, and many things might become more clear over the coming months.
