We call it ION 2 and we’ve already wrote that ION 2 will come with twice the number or shaders of the current generation, but our sources even suggested that the shader count will be bigger than 32. Lets leave this for another time, until we get certain, but some sources suggested even 40 Shaders for the new ION.

During a conference call yesterday, Nvidia officially confirmed the existence of the ION 2 project. They call it next generation ION and they went on the record telling Fudzilla that it won’t launch at CES 2010.

However it will be showcased at CES as many partners will have it on the show, but the official announcement according to an Nvidia ION senior manager will launch in Q1 2010.

The chips and systems came in Q4 2009 as we suggested a few months ago, but Nvidia decided to postponed it because it was asked by partners who are happily enjoying the good sales of the original ION platform.

Big names such as Asus, MSI, Lenovo and HP are to be hold responsible for the delay, but the chip should be live and kicking in Pinetral-M and Pinetral-D environment.
