ION-powered netbook launches on October 22nd

Lenovo's S12 was supposed to hit the market earlier, boasting the title of the first ION-based netbook around, but the company decided to wait for the launch of Windows 7, scheduled for October 22nd 2009. Now the company officially announced the launch of the S12, and it will arrive on the same day as Windows 7.

The ION-based S12 comes with Atom N270 CPU, 1280x800 display, 2GB of RAM and a 250GB HDD. It will feature 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth and a 1.3MP webcamera, and will of course run on Win 7 Home premium.

Lenovo equipped the S12 with three USB ports, VGA, HDMI and audio outs, and this little bugger will feature a 4-in-1 card reader as well. It will use a 6-cell battery, which should be good for up to 6 hours and it weighs in at 1.55kg.

The S12 launches on October 22nd in Japan, priced at about $757 after conversion from yen. The device will be available in white color only, and while initial reports suggested that the US launch of S12 will follow shortly, and that it should sell for about $550, we'll have to wait and see.
