Three to tango

As expected,
Intel launched three Core i7 mobile CPUs at IDF. We wrote about them back in early August, but here's a short rundown anyway.

The Core i7 Mobile lineup starts with the Core i7 720QM, clocked at 1.6GHz and Turbo mode can push it up to 2.8GHz. It has a 45W TDP and it's priced at $364. Next in line, the 1.73GHz Core i7 820, overclockable to 3.06GHz. It packs 8MB of cache, has a 45W TDP and costs $546.

A painful $1,054 will get you the only Extreme Edition part in the linup, the Core i7 920XM. It runs on 2.0GHz and Turbo pushes it to 3.2GHz. Apart from the high price tag, the 55W TDP is also something to be concerned about.

At this point we believe Intel won't offer additional Core i7 Mobile parts in 45nm, and it will probably wait to get to 32nm.

Several vendors have already announced Core i7 based notebooks, including HP, Asus and Toshiba. You should see them in retail in a matter of days.
