Looks like today is the Core i7 mobile launch day. MSI has prepared two notebooks in its GT series that will be based on Intel's Core i7 mobile quad-core CPU. The GT740 and GT640 are both a part of MSI's Gaming series and in addition to the Core i7 CPU, both will be equipped with Nvidia's Geforce GTS 250M graphics with 1GB of DDR3 memory.

Both of these notebooks are based on Intel's PM55 chipest which is paired with Intel's Core i7-720QM quad-core CPU working at 1,6GHz and featuring 6MB of cache. The rest of the specifications for these two SKUs include, Nvidia's GTS 250M with 1GB of DDR3 memory, 4GB of DDR2 667/800 memory, Gigabit LAN, 802.11bgn WiFi, 500GB 5.400RPM hard drive, eSATA port, Dsub and HDMI outputs and will be shipped with  a 6-cell 4800mAh battery.

The differences between the GT740 and GT640 are in the dimensions, weight and of course the size of the screen. The larger, 395x278x35,5‐39,5mm, GT740, has a 17-inch 1680x1050 glare screen and weighs around 3.5kg with a 6-cell battery. The smaller GT640 has smaller 358x259x27‐32mm dimensions, smaller 15.4-inch screen with the same resolution and weighs around 2.8kg with the same battery.

The GT740 has a recommended price tag of €1.499 for the mentioned SKU, while the smaller GT640 should retail at €1.399. There might be different SKUs with different amount of memory, maybe a different graphics card, and probably even a different CPU, but we will see once all the models hit retail and e-tail shops.
