Timeline for businesspeople, starting at €629
We've all seen Acer's new Timeline series CULV-based notebooks, but
many have missed the TravelMate 8371 series, a very similar design for
business users.
Acer showed off the new 13-incher back at Computex, and it differed
from the Timeline in that it had no HDMI out, but offered a fingerprint
reader, and more importantly, a non-glare 13.3-inch 1366x768 screen.
We were expecting the TravelMate 8371 in retail soon, but the prices
came as bit of a surprise. The cheapest version, with a Core 2 Solo
SU3500, 2GB of memory and a 160GB disk is listed at €629, while a
slightly better SKU with the same CPU, but double the RAM and storage,
should sell for just €650. A more powerful version, based on the Core 2
Duo SU9400, is expected a bit later, and if Timeline pricing is
anything to go by, it should probably end up priced around the €750
mark.
This sounds like a very good deal, as you simply can't get a thin and
light thirteen with a matte screen for that kind of money anywhere
else. Basically the only bad thing about is the fact that Acer dropped
HDMI.
