Won't run full-fat Windows

With so many people complaining about the battery life of their netbooks, it seems like the PurseBook might be what a lot of people have been waiting for. Although so far it's only a design study made by Wistron on behalf of Qualcomm, this Snapdragon powered MID has a certain appeal.

We're not sure the term PurseBook will stick though, but despite the name, the device itself has some advantages over a netbook, such as 8h battery life, yet it weighs less than 1kg. There's no word on screen size or resolution, but the PurseBook features a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor which is the same processor used by Toshiba in the TG01 Windows Mobile Smartphone. This means that the PurseBook won't run Windows XP or Vista, but the demo model was running a custom Linux version that looks quite slick.

Apart from the CPU the specifications are scarce, but judging from the pictures the PurseBook does at least feature a couple of USB 2.0 ports, a headphone jack and a memory card slot. It also features a built in 3G modem, but this wasn't working on the demo unit. We're not overly keen on the touch-sensitive "mouse" knob either, as in our experience these are a bit of hit and miss. Still, it's an interesting concept that will hopefully turn up as a real product in the near future.
