As the beta window closes, large scale battle rages

As the window of the Star Trek Online beta draws to an end, news from beta players indicates that the Klingons appear to be massing for a large-scale assault. Word from the front suggests that this is the first real large-scale battle that has been staged so far.

With the Klingons all but assured to enter Federation space, the news gathered from those that have been participating in the Star Trek Online beta has been mostly positive. While we have heard of some issues that have been addressed during the beta cycle, discussions have been mostly positive, with many players suggesting that game has lived up to what they had been hoping that it would be.

From the reports that we are hearing, after the Klingon battle has ended, the beta servers will be shut down till they again go live on Friday. While some have viewed Star Trek Online as a big risk that could struggle to draw players, it would appear that more than enough Trekkies seem to be into the game judging from the response to the beta. It remains to be seen whether the chance Cryptic has taken with the game will be justified and the game will be successful. Some are still taking a wait and see attitude, however, suggesting that it is far too early to tell how well the game will actually do. Long-term interest is necessary for the survival of the game, as is the case with all games of this type.
