British official lashes out at violence in games

Not another "violent games" argument, please

British
politician Iain Duncan Smith has recently come out with one of “those” arguments that tend to blame anything and everything on violent games. He threw in alcohol for a good measure as well, but you know what they say – it all starts with violent games.

He says how “we are driving children to lose their childhood” and how some games are “incredibly violent, like Grand Theft Auto.”. After being asked about rating systems, as they’re supposed to prevent minors from playing adult games, he says that “they are meant to be 18 but nobody cares what it says on the label.” He also mentioned that alcohol is one of contributing factors as well, but we’re not an alcohol-related site. Well, at least not on Monday.

Yours truly never stops being amazed at the vigor with which various government officials lash out at games and the “violence”. How about getting rid of real violence, real guns and real governments that murder innocent people all around the world and leave us “violent” gamers alone. Those we kill at least respawn.

More here.
