Confirms that a sequel is in the works

We recently reported that DJ David Guetta had mentioned that he was at work on DJ Hero 2 and the news confirmed speculation that Activision was committed to the franchise, despite its somewhat poor start. Now Activision boss Bobby Kotick has reportedly told Game Informer magazine that they are “sticking with it,” which confirms that they expect an upcoming announcement for a DJ Hero 2 release for the holidays.

While the first DJ Hero installment received mixed reviews, many reviewers did cite potential in the concept and the title. While Kotick suggests that they didn’t get it right the first time around, they intend to learn from the first release and get it right next time around.

While we can’t claim that the peripheral titles were a failure in 2009, what we can say is that the number of choices did make it difficult for higher priced titles in such a tough economy. In addition, we have to wonder if some of the luster was lost on these peripheral titles, making them a bit less appealing, as some gamers might have had the view that they had already been there and done that. Still, we do expect companies (including Activision) to wade into the peripheral titles and continue development in the short term; but we have to think that the price is going to have to come down or they are going to have to be far more innovative in order to draw the attention of gamers who have limited money to spend.
