Blizzard could've been bought for $7 million in 1995

Instead of $7 billion now

Activision-
Blizzard president and CEO, Bobby Kotick, has recently spilled some seriously interesting beans about Blizzard’s way from “that company that made that cool RTS” to the gaming force it is today.

In an interview with Gameinformer, Kotick noted how the entire saga could’ve easily been different. He spoke of a certain dinner in 1995 with Davidson & Associates when he heard that they splashed out $7 million on Blizzard and couldn’t believe it. He actually thought the entire ordeal of splashing out such insane amounts of money on someone who just has Warcraft is simply folly.

He conveniently compared the pricetag to Activision’s revenues, which totaled at 60 million in 1995, and made his stance. Little did he know that the companies have a joint future after all.

In fact, he even jokingly asked Blizzard’s founder whether he’s aware that his company could’ve cost him $7 million instead of $7 billion, but I guess it’s too late for regrets now. Be it as it may, and as Gameinformer notes, it’s indeed difficult to imagine what gaming would look like today if things didn’t go like they did.

More here.
