Sources suggest decision has been made

With all of the coverage of the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and developer Infinity Ward lately, not much has been said about the next expected Call of Duty title that is apparently in development with developer, Treyarch.

One of our sources claims to remember having a discussion with developers at the studio that indicated that World at War was likely the last of the WWII themed Call of Duty titles to be released. Now we are hearing from our sources that the next installment of Call of Duty will be a Vietnam War-based title. Of course, no one is ready to officially confirm this at Activision yet, as they are still riding the momentum of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and the first expansion pack for it hasn’t even been released yet.

If the decision has been made to create a Vietnam War era title for the next Call of Duty installment to carry players over till the next Infinity Ward release, it is going to have some big shoes to fill. In our opinion, the last really good Vietnam War-based title was Battlefield Vietnam, which was actually developed by EA Canada with help and input from DICE (if memory serves us correctly). It offered some very good game play with licensed retro 60s music that really helped make the game come to life. While there were others, this is the title that stands out to us from the past Vietnam era titles.

What we can tell you about Call of Duty 7 is that reports do indicate that apparently some attempts to license music for the game have taken place; according to our sources and the indications from the selection of music that apparently is being selected, the Vietnam era is likely correct, but it could be more than that as rumors of Soviet and Cuban music have also been discussed.

From what we know it does appear that Treyarch is leading the development and there is no word on when it might arrive, but we do expect an announcement at some point this year, maybe as soon as E3 in June.
