But is it a fake?

A 14-year-old developer claims to have programmed the first ever N64 emulator for Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch. Dubbed the 3G4, it uses "stunning control and ROM interpretation that you almost think you are streaming from your TV."

The kid has posted evidence of his work here. He claims that it is a work in progress but he has to overcome duplicate button registers, delayed presses, and some crashing and he has yet to implement the L, R, and Z keys.

However the video has lead some to believe that the whole thing is a fake. It could be real if he was using ari64's N64 emulator code, something he failed to mention. In case you aren't familiar with the subject, Ari64 developed what would be the base of an N64 emulator for ARM powered devices. It was initially made for the Pandora (an independently produced portable console), but is being ported by ZodTTD to the iPhone.

But fake or not, it does show something to Apple and the gaming community- there is a desire to play real games on the iPhone. There have been rumours that Apple was going to try and turn the iPhone into a gaming machine to compete with the likes of Nintendo and Sony, but so far little has come from it.
