Apple sends 1,000 apps packing from its App Store

Along with their cheating developer

The master of everything overpriced, Apple, has set a precedent on dealing with anyone who tries to trick their iTunes App Store. Chinese developer Molinker has gotten the boot, along with more than 1,000 of its apps for various scams resulting in their apps almost exclusively getting top reviews.

Molinker's apps were mostly knockoffs of existing apps, but the company noticed that they are consistently getting 5-star reviews. In fact, the entire batch almost never scored 2-4 stars, and the only ratings that stepped away from this 5-star trend peculiarly enough carried one star only. These were later identified as the only ones that were actually truthful.

Apparently, Molinker gave out free copies of the apps via promotional codes in return for the 5-star reviews. The reviews were reportedly poorly written (Did they test for quality of writing? sub.ed) and came from customers who pretty much reviewed only these apps.

This move allowed Molinker to regularly feature on top of the charts, something they'd normally never achieve, but Apple obviously wouldn't stand for that.
