Not sure about Sony’s motion wand long term

Microsoft has been visiting developers over the past couple of months and showing Natal to them. After closer examination of Natal, it would seem that developers prefer the potential of this solution over the Sony developer motion wand technology.

This, of course, is already having an impact, with our sources confirming to us that they are investing more heavily in the development of Natal titles for the Xbox 360 rather than the Sony motion wand solution for the PlayStation 3. The fact that software support will be necessary for the success of either device has to already be troubling Sony.

Publisher Ubisoft, for example, according to reports already has ten titles in development that will support Natal, while they only have four or perhaps five that will offer support for the PS3 motion wand solution. It is unknown at this point how much motion support or what kinds of motion support these titles will offer. According to sources we have spoken with this trend isn’t unique, as other developers and publishers seem to be favoring Natal as well, but not by as wide a margin.

While some are already speculating that many of the first games to arrive for both motion controller technologies will be casual game titles, some are telling us that this is necessary for the developers to get more experience with the motion technology and to be able incorporate it into platforms where users have not previously had this type of technology.
