Five year development cycle almost over

Our moles from the land of Xbox 360 have confirmed to us that Alan Wake is now confirmed to arrive for a May 2010 release. The date of May 12th, 2010 seems to be the day, according to our sources.

The Remedy Entertainment developed title will be published and distributed through Microsoft and released at least at first as an Xbox 360 exclusive. The game is described as a “psychological action thriller” that is inspired by a variety of media sources. The game itself is said to be presented in an episodic format that is similar to a television show.

While the game itself has been in development for over five years, it was only in August of this year that it looked as if the game was getting closer to release, as it was announced that the game was basically completed and undergoing additional polish and testing prior to release.

While initially it was announced that the title would arrive for the PC Windows platform, as well, rumors earlier this year persisted that the company was putting the PC version on the back burner, so to speak, in an effort to speed the release of the Xbox 360 version. Some have suggested that the PC version was canceled, but according to our sources Remedy still has plans to finish the PC version once the Xbox 360 version is released. In addition, our sources are suggesting that the PC version will be updated to take advantage of DirectX 11 support. There is no additional word on the expected release date for the PC version, but our sources suggest that it will follow at some point later in 2010.
