Will definitely support mod community upon release

In view of the negative press that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 for the PC has been getting from the PC community, Battlefield developer DICE has been going to great lengths to capitalize on the perceived shortcomings of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and to make sure that the PC community knows that DICE is going to continue to support the PC community with its release of Battlefield Bad Company 2.

According to sources, DICE wants the PC gaming community to know that the release of Battlefield Bad Company 2 on the PC will be much more than just a conversion or port of the console version of the game. DICE wants to give PC users the kind of experience that they are used to from a title of this type on the PC platform, and they will leverage their experience in building the Battlefield franchise on the PC to do this.

With all of the discussion in the community about “modding” support lately, it is good to know that DICE plans full support for community mods; and they look to release tools to help those interested in building mods for BFBC2. The problem is that all of these tools might not be available right away, as the Frostbite engine in the PC is still new and DICE will need time to focus on getting more tools available and out to the community. (It is said that the complexity of the engine is part of the problem and the need to polish the tools into a more usable version prior to release, according to our sources.) Still, from the start DICE is claiming that they have not decided that there is anything that they will not be doing. This is, of course, good news for the modding community.

From much of the rumblings that we are hearing within the PC community, provided that BFBC2 is good, it could attract a lot of converts on the PC side and do quite well for DICE and publisher Electronic Arts. One point of note is that our sources are now saying that it is possible that the PC version of the beta could slip into January or early February, at the latest. This is a bit of a change from the news earlier that the PC beta would make a December release date. We have been unable to officially confirm from our sources that this is the case, but some new chatter seems to indicate that the demo’s slipping into next year is at least possible at this point.
