Seems that Sony is thinking about this already

Now that the PSPgo has hit the streets and we have known from the start that it would be a download-only system. That means that unlike other gaming systems, the ability to rent games would no longer be available, or would it?

It seems now that our eager investigative sources have found that Sony has put a time limit value on gaming content as well as video content. From what our sources are reporting, while it was always known that some video content would have an expiration date; it seems that it would be possible for Sony to offer game download rentals, as well, that also have an expiration date.  This means that it is at least possible that Sony could offer game download rentals in the same way that they are able to limit or rent, if you will, video content.

While Sony has not publicly talked about the possibility of offering game rentals, it does seem like a logical next step for the system and it might be something that they are at least thinking about. The concept isn’t as strange as it sounds, as the company is said to have conducted some surveys suggesting the possibility of such an idea.

Of course, it isn’t hard to guess that the reaction to video game rentals on the PSPgo would meet with some resistance from those who are already engaged in the video rental business; but since the PSPgo is a closed download-only system from the start, it is at least possible that some video game companies might be open to the idea if they were able to get some of revenue generated by it. As things stand today, video game companies get no revenue from video game rentals, and some might view this as a chance to test a new model that could help to combat used video game sales, which continue to be a big concern for many video game companies.
