Madden makes short work of Wolfenstein in sales

For those that were hoping to request their refund from Manveer Heir for their copy of Wolfenstein are going to be unhappy to find out that, as expected, Madden 2010 crashed Wolfenstein in sales; although EA is reporting that Madden sales are down over last year.

From what we have been able to figure, Madden sold 1.9 million copies over the platforms while Wolfenstein was only able to muster 106,000 copies over the same platforms. While some are calling Wolfenstein a failure, we just don’t think that is a fair comment. The lower than expected sales do, however, point to a lot of the reason for the recent layoffs at Raven software, who was responsible for the Wolfenstein release.

Raven now has a lot riding on the release of Singularity, which was pushed back into next year in order to have a better chance for success and so as not to compete with the release of CODMW2. Activision will be watching the performance of Singularity and it would be fair to expect that Raven does have a lot riding on this release as far as the future of the studio in general.

While Wolfenstein sales might bounce back with a rumored price cut, the bottom line is that many of the reviews have noted that the story is mediocre at best, and the inconsistent game play does drag the title down from its positives such as great boss fights and excellent online play. It is possible that the online part of the title might be the part that could help save the game in the end.
