Excitement seems to be hitting a fever pitch, as it would seem that Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy will be released on December 17th. This is great news if you are a Final Fantasy fan, except for one problem. It seems that the release date is actually for the Japanese release of the title only.

In the past, Square Enix would only offer that the title was on track for a release late this year, but the company was always careful to never really give anyone anything more than that. It seems, however, while the 17th seems to be the target date for the Japanese release, it is likely that unless some divine twist of fate happens players in North America and Europe will not see Final Fantasy until sometime early next year.

While the news is surely a disappointment to those Final Fantasy fans not living in Japan, the good news is that the game is rounding third and heading for home. There is not much longer of a wait.
