Some worried about the decision

As many know by now, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 will not have a public beta test for the multiplayer part of the title as some speculated it might. The focus will continue to keep testing in-house.

The decision to keep the testing for CODMW2 in-house isn’t something that has been well received by the entire community and some have suggested they the benefits of doing a public beta might outweigh the disadvantages.

Infinity Ward, however, claims that the decision to keep it all in-house will allow the company to deliver a more polished product during this part of the development cycle because they will be able to test more extensively. The company has dismissed concerns about issues with the multiplayer, as the company would never ship a product that did not live up to their standards.

It could be that the real source of the problem is that COD4 had a multiplayer public beta prior to the release of the game; and it is believed by some that the excitement surrounding the release of the game is just making gamers eager to play the title ahead of the official release. The company seems to be firm and the internal closed beta will be all that there is.
