Valve pretty much finished with the PS3

Nothing happening with it in any real way

With what can only be described as negative comments about the PlayStation 3, it would seem that at least for the near term Valve is pretty much not even going to concern themselves with developing the PS3 platform.

Gabe Newell from Valve has proclaimed that they are not working to understand it better or devoting resources to get any better at developing for it. When asked about any future titles for the PS3, he was quoted as saying, “Uh, no,” as to working on PlayStation 3 titles.

Right now, Valve will continue to focus on the Xbox 360 and PC platforms. While continued development on the PC platform isn’t really surprising, since the company is responsible for the Steam content delivery system (which is at the heart of the company’s electronic distribution model for the PC). The continued support of the Xbox 360 also is a good match for the company, as many of the development tools and technology are quite similar to the games that the company develops on the PC platform.

While Sony will likely not lose any sleep over the loss of Valve as a potential developer for the PS3 platform, it does give Microsoft an advantage over Sony with the Valve-produced titles continuing to be a console exclusive for the platform. As with the previous Left 4 Dead release, the sequel will also be exclusive for the Xbox 360 and PC platforms, which are at the heart of the holiday game releases on both platforms.
