Good sales of UFC and strong reviews for Red Faction

Things actually seem to be looking up even more for THQ since the last time we wrote about the publisher. In our last news items we were questioning what the sales were going to be like for the upcoming release of Red Faction: Guerrilla.

From the reports we are hearing, Red Faction: Guerrilla is building some momentum at retail with sales that are already estimated to be over 1 million plus units already sold. Much of the surge in sales, despite the soft pre-order bookings for the title, seems to be due to the positive reviews that the title has received. While THQ was hoping for larger sales, it is a solid start for title that was being questioned just a week ago.

While sales of Red Faction: Guerrilla are not where THQ would like them yet, UFC 2009 has been a surprise hit for the publisher. The latest numbers for UFC 2009: Undisputed peg the sales at well over 2 million copies so far with numbers expected to continue to climb.

THQ has several games on the horizon, including Marvel Super Hero Squad, MX vs. ATV Reflex, and Darksiders. THQ is expecting that both Marvel Super Hero Squad and MX vs. ATV Reflex will sell over 1 million units each when released. Darksiders had a surprisingly excellent showing at E3 and received good media buzz. THQ is forecasting that Darksiders should be able to sell at least 1.5 million units when released.

As for the future, beyond Marvel Super Hero Squad, MX vs. ATV Reflex, and Darksiders the company is optimistic about Homefront from Frontlines Fuel of War developer Kaos Studios and Warhammer 40K-based Space Marines. While a final decision has yet to be made, it would appear that at least the possibility for Saints Row 3 does exist. THQ was disappointed with the sales of Saints Row 2, so the pressure will be on for Saints Row 3 this time out if the publisher green lights the development of it.

Based on all of the positive news, the stock price is up and we have to say that THQ could be on the brink of being headed in the right direction once again.
