Square Enix acquisition means new strategy

Eidos has ended their distribution deal with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The move is not really surprising, given that Eidos was acquired by Square Enix. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will now manage the distribution for the release of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Mini Ninjas, which are due in August and September for North America as a co-publisher. Eidos and Square Enix will handle the releases in Europe.

Future releases, including Kane and Lynch 2 and Just Cause 2 titles, which are known to be already deep in development will be handled directly by Eidos and Square Enix directly. Other announced Eidos titles include Deus Ex 3 and Thief 4, which will also be distributed by Eidos and Square Enix when released in late 2010 or early 2011.

The move is not really unexpected, as Square Enix looks to bring things under one roof and transition distribution into the most cost effective model possible. Previously released catalog titles will also be transitioned over the new Eidos and Square Enix distribution model, but no exact timetable was announced for this to happen.
