Sweden-based studio victim of poor sales

Sources have let us know that Sweden-based developer GRIN is going to be hit with some serious layoffs that are due in part to poor sales of Bionic Commando and Terminator: Salvation. It is estimated once the layoffs are all made official, it could see more than 160 employees in total let go.

From what we hear all GRIN facilities will be affected and corporate HQ in Stockholm will lose 30 people alone. While some employees have yet to be notified, some have already been told. It is suspected that GRIN will release an official statement sometime before the end of the week.

Our sources tell us that for the moment the rumors that have been circulating that GRIN will be closed seem to be unlikely at the moment. While it is not uncommon for studios to let some folks go once a project wraps up and while the studio realigns for their next project, our sources tell us that this is more than a simple realignment and that it is a cost cutting measure. We do think it is possible that the studio’s future could be up in the air, yet our sources tell us not to expect the studio to go away, but it might pull the plug on some of its satellite studio operations to reduce overhead.
