Skateboard Peripheral now confirmed

As we have been suggesting to you over the past several weeks, a new Tony Hawk game has been in development since the franchise took some time off after a couple of poor outings and increased competition from Electronic Arts with the Skate franchise.

More details about the next chapter in the Tony Hawk franchise are coming a bit more clear with the news that the new title will be called “Tony Hawk Ride.” In addition to the name being confirmed, it is now also confirmed that the same will include a skateboard peripheral as part of the package. Activision has launched a new Website and trailer ahead of E3 to promote the news of the new title.

Tony Hawk Ride will be the first outing for new developer Robomodo who is based in Chicago. Robomodo took over the franchise from long-time developer Neversoft, as the focus of Neversoft has moved totally to the Guitar Hero franchise. A good majority of the of the developers that make up the new Robomodo studio are veterans from the old Electronic Arts Chicago studio, as well as some from Buzz Money Software who worked on the Tomb Raider Underworld.

From what we hear so far, Tony Hawk Ride will utilize a tilt sensitive skateboard peripheral that offers buttons on it. It looks to operate in the same way as the Wii Balance Board does with Electronic Arts title, Skate It on the Wii. It is unclear if you will be able to use the game without the skate board peripheral or if you will be able to purchase the title without the skate board peripheral.

Activision is describing Tony Hawk Ride as complete overhaul of the franchise and the most serious redesign since Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground. The game is still on track for a release this holiday season and it will be shown at E3 for the first time next month.
