Several questions now answered

Ubisoft has spilled the beans on what the future will hold for some upcoming sequels as well the expected release dates for some key upcoming titles. While sales declined 5.1 percent in the company’s fourth quarter, the strength of the company’s Wii titles helped the company to a 14 percent sales increase over fiscal 2008.

The biggest news was the confirmation of the development of a new Shaun White snowboarding title. While sales of the title were a bit soft for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the title did very well on the Wii, so while no timetable was set, as we predicted we will get a sequel at some point in the future.

The new flying title Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X. achieved the initial sales target of one million units sold during the fourth quarter. While not officially confirmed, it is all but assured that we will see a sequel to this unique combat flying title.

The latest Price of Persia title sold a respectable 2.5 million units, which is impressive considering that it was released for fewer platforms this time around. While it is too soon to talk about sequel specifics, one is most certainly in the works for next year.

As for the release slate for this year, Red Steel 2 is now confirmed for a holiday 2009 release; while it will be a Wii exclusive, the exact date of release is still up in the air. In addition, gamers can look forward to Assassin’s Creed 2, James Cameron’s Avatar, Splinter Cell Conviction and Rabbids Go Home for this holiday season. One new franchise will also make its appearance this holiday season from Ubisoft, but no details were given on what this might be.

As for upcoming titles, the company will have a bit of a light first quarter with releases that include Dawn of Discovery, Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, as well as new additions to the Imagine, Petz, My Coach, and Playzone franchise on the Nintendo DS.

Before the holidays, gamers should be on the look out for I Am Alive, R.U.S.E., and a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles title, Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, and a new Arthur and the Invisibles title. A new mystery sports entry is also expected to make an appearance.

The company says that they will continue to invest in expansion and internal development of projects to better control both quality and process. The company has continued to add employees despite the economic down turn.
