Wii and Zune steal the show

Pricegrabber has published Black Friday shopping data, which seems to prove that U.S. consumers are rapidly turning to online shopping for their holiday needs.

According to the site, online referrals to retailers are up 47 percent compared to last year, while comScore is claiming that the total growth was 22 percent, to $531 million, which clearly shows that the sales jump can be to a large degree attributed to online shoppers. Furthermore, comScore Chairman Gian Fulgoni expects Cyber Monday sales to be even stronger than Black Friday's and to exceed $700 million. This would make it the heaviest online shopping day on record.

The consumer's choice of products is also interesting. Gaming console sales seem to have experienced the biggest sales growth, up 134 percent compared to last year. Nintendo Wii sales are up a whopping 467 percent since last year, and the console keeps outselling Microsoft's XboX 360 and Sony's Playstation 3 by a significant margin. The Wii is the best selling Black Friday iproduct in general.

One surprise is Microsoft's Zune player, which has outperformed Apple's iPod players, and the 30GB version ended up second on the top selling list. TomTom's ONE navigation system is third, while Activision's Guitar Hero 3 gets fourth place. Canon's SD1000 (Ixus 70 in Europe) is fifth, and at just over $150 this little camera is a great deal.

Sixth and seventh place go to Microsoft's Office 2004 Student and Teacher and WD's MyBook 500GB portable hard drive, while Magellan's Maestro 3100 GPS gets eighth place.

Canon's SD750 (Ixus 75) gets ninth place and its EOS Rebel XTi dSLR (EOS 400D) is ranked tenth.
