User content builder for City of Heroes MMO

Mission Architect has been released by NCsoft for the City of Heroes MMO that allows users to create custom missions and stories for the first time. Once generated, these custom missions and stories can be then shared with other users.

Mission Architect is very unique in the fact that it allows users to create and generate these custom missions using the existing game assets, in addition to being able to build their own characters and villains into the Mission Architect. Of course, the biggest fun might be that users can write their own dialogue to go along with the story.

From what we understand, City of Heroes subscribers will be able to publish three story arcs per account, and each arc will be allowed to offer up to five missions and twenty-five objectives. An online rating system will allow users to rate each others’ content. Content that is highly rated by the community can earn additional rewards, and if it happens to be chosen by the City of Heroes development team the user can be rewarded with an extra slot for an additional story.

During the beta of Mission Architect the community created over 5,000 custom stories that represented 25,000 user-created missions. NCsoft believes that with the popularity of Mission Architect and the influx of new content, City of Heroes subscriptions are likely to go up. The ability to create and share custom content like this in an MMO is unique and could be a very interesting development for the MMO community.
