Midway is apparently getting lots of interest in the possible sale of the Mortal Kombat franchise, but the company says that they would prefer not to have to sell it. The company is doing a bit of backpedaling now, suggesting that it is not a goal to sell the Mortal Kombat franchise.

The company is not suggesting that it will not happen, but it is something that they obviously do not want to do. There is really no surprise to this realization, as we told you yesterday the Mortal Kombat is pretty much the franchise IP that could bring in the most dollars in a sale by Midway.

While the future of the Mortal Kombat franchise is up in the air, our sources confirm that in the meantime Midway continues to work on the development of the new Mortal Kombat title. The new Mortal Kombat title will feature a new game engine, but little else is known beyond this.
